Major in Sculpture - 60 credits

The field of sculpture today is materially diverse and conceptually rich in its formation. It encompasses numerous approaches from making autonomous objects to performance based installation. Contemporary sculpture includes the use of both traditional and digital technologies such as recording impressions and reproducing form in mould-making to recording, reproducing and projecting digital imagery. This expanded field can include interventions in public space either through media-scapes or in actual landscapes.

Sculpture today represents a diversity formed on the basis of interrogations in spatial contexts that are most often defined by social parameters that can either be physical or virtual, global or local. This inclusivity is an important influential characteristic of the Sculpture program and is evidence of a theoretical orientation to the discipline that acknowledges difference over hegemony, inclusivity against alienation, diversity to centralization, terms that provide viable places for students to work out their ideas.

Against this background of rich diversity, faculty and teaching assistants working in the Sculpture program provide the context both for developing in the discipline and new pedagogical approaches to sculpture.

Admission requirements
