Prior to joining Concordia, Jean-Pierre
Larocque has lived and worked in Montreal as a self-supporting artist
for 10 years. From 1990 to 2000 he taught full-time at a number of
institutions across North America including Emily Carr University of Art
+ Design in Vancouver, the New York State College of Ceramics at
Alfred University, the University of Athens in Georgia, the University
of Michigan in Ann Arbor, and California State University, Long Beach
near Los Angeles. In 2004, Larocque was commissioned to create a large
solo exhibition for the reopening of the Gardiner Museum of Ceramics in
Toronto. Entitled Jean-Pierre Larocque: Clay Sculpture and Drawings, the
exhibition, accompanied by a catalogue, opened in 2006. A film of the
project was presented at the International Festival of Films on Art
later that year. His work was featured in Raw/Medium/Rare/Well Done, the
ceramics exhibition in the FOFA Gallery in March 2009.
