Fibres

The Fibres concentration of the MFA in Studio Arts program provides a dynamic environment for the development of a contemporary art practice in which studio production is central. A wide range of activities are supported including the creation of objects, installation, performance, and new media work. Extended practices may include writing, curating and collaborative projects. You will develop your own process of artistic expression and contribute to the expanded field of contemporary textile arts. Traditional and innovative approaches are supported.

The studio course meets weekly in individual studio spaces under the supervision of a faculty member. Discussions address a broad range of issues tailored to student interests and may include gender and identity, textiles and digital technologies and cloth as a site of political action. The program is punctuated with field trips, visiting artists, and special projects. You will formally present your work at the end of each term to a review committee of faculty members and external evaluators.
