Applicants to the MFA in Studio Arts are expected to have a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree or an approved equivalent with at least a B average.

Note: Concordia University BFA graduates must wait two years before applying for the MFA program.

Application deadline: January 20 (fall entry only)

A portfolio is required for admission. Portfolio requirements are program specific. Please check the listing below to ensure you have included all the components required for consideration into your chosen program.

All programs have a minimum of two year residency before delivery of the thesis project in the third year.

Fibres, Print Media, Photography, Sculpture/Ceramics, Painting/Drawing

1. Application form
You must apply online at https://connect2.concordia.ca.

2. Letter of intent
Indicate specific interest in our program and how projected graduate studies relate to personal long-term academic and professional goals (max.600 words).

3. Portfolio
A maximum of twenty images of recent work with a separate concise description list, (medium, size and date).

Digital images should be submitted on a MAC compatible cd/dvd, all files should be .jpg at 1024(w) x 768(h) maximum.

please label all files with a 2 digit number, your name, title, and year of production.

i.e. 

01_JaneDoe_bubbles_2010

02_JaneDoe_dogs_2010

etcetera.

This labeling ensures that your work will project well and in the order you have determined and so will best represent your practice.

Please use the same naming strategy to develop your concise description list.

Time based work should be cued for playback and no more than 10 minutes in length.

One (1) official transcript from the institution(s) previously attended.

6. Academic assessment forms

With the downloadable academic assessment form attached to each, please submit three (3) letters from qualified referees to be included with your application. It is recommended the applicant provides the reference forms to the referees at least one month in advance of the application deadline. The references may arrive under separate cover but must be received by the application deadline of January 20.

Film Production:


The applicant's submitted portfolio must be relevant to the projected research program as described in the Thesis proposal below. To be eligible for admission to the Graduate Film Production program, applicants must submit all of the following:

1. Application form
You should apply online at https://connect2.concordia.ca.

2. Letter of intent
Indicate specific interest in our program and how projected graduate studies relate to personal long-term academic and professional goals (max.600 words).

3. Portfolio
A maximum of 30 minutes of time-based audiovisual work (film, video, and where relevant, documentation of installation work). Work should be cued and submitted on DVD (NTSC preferred). On a separate sheet, include list of portfolio items with description, creative role, medium, length, and date of each production.

4. Thesis proposal
A description of the proposed studio research program / thesis project, which may include a creative treatment. Please comment on its scheduling and budgetary feasibility.

5. Curriculum vitae and filmography
Indicate evidence of specialized training in any technical areas of analogue and digital production.

6. Transcripts
One (1) official transcript from the institution(s) previously attended.

7. Academic assessment forms
With the academic assessment form attached, please submit three (3) letters from qualified referees to be included with your application. It is recommended the applicant provides the reference forms to the referees at least one month in advance of the application deadline. The references may arrive under separate cover but must be received by the application deadline of January 20.

Open Media:

1. Application form

3. Portfolio

A maximum of twenty images of recent work with a separate detailed description list, (medium, size and date), or one PowerPoint presentation of these images. One video or film, not more than 15 minutes in length, may be submitted . These must be transferred to DVD. Sound/audio based work should be on CDR.

DVD-Rs and CD-Rs must be Mac compatible.

Digital images should be submitted on a MAC compatible cd/dvd, all files should be .jpg at 1024(w) x 768(h) maximum.
