Equipment and Video Depot (EV 6.621)

The Equipment and video depot on the 6th floor is the hub of IMCA's video and sound production facilities. The depot is overseen by IMCA video coordinators Ian Cameron and Benoit Chaussé, and staffed by workstudy students who provide technical assistance with student projects, equipment and editing. Production Studio

The 6th floor IMCA Video studio is available to students for video and sound production, as well as performances and critiques.

The 1300 square feet production studio has extensive grid, lighting and grip equipment. Both green screen (chroma-key) and black velvet curtain backdrops are available. The green screen includes a built-in cyclorama. Studio production equipment includes:

  • dedicated fresnel green-screen lighting (shown in image)
  • overhead grid with power for hanging lights
  • fresnel and scoop lights on rolling stands
  • flag kit, gels and diffusion
  • C-stands with booms and associated grip equipment
  • apple boxes and sand bags

Editing Suites

IMCA's video facilities include seven SD & HD video editing suites. These private edit suites support video production classes and student projects, allowing students the space and resources to focus on their projects. Edit suites can be booked online and accessed 24/7 during the academic year. Six editing suites contain the following equipment:

  • Dual computer monitors
  • Broadcast reference monitor
  • Professional DVCAM capture deck (SD)
  • Apple Production Computers
  • Audio Mixer and powered speaker monitors
  • Final Cut Studio# (which include: Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro, Compressor, Color and more)
  • Adobe After Affects Pro
  • Adobe Photoshop

Additionally, an HD editing Suite, with dual 24" computer monitors with an HDV capture deck is available as well as transfers and dubbing possibilities from analog to digital (VHS, Hi-8 and other formats).

The Hybrid Lab

The hybrid lab classroom supports the teaching of electronics, programming and screen-based digital art practice. The lab is equipped with computers, basic electronics gear and and soldering equipment for each student.

Electronics Lab

The electronics lab, located next to the hybrid teaching lab, provides technical support for student projects and faculty teaching. Staffed by our ever knowledgable technican Martin Peach, the electronics lab's resources include:

  • soldering stations and hand tools for electronics assembly
  • test equipment: multimeters, oscilloscope
  • microcontroller platforms and programing interfaces: Arduino, Basic Stamp, Pic
  • components for prototyping: passives, IC's, wire, electromechanical
  • sensors
